Bring your own horses Wyoming Vacation Ranch
Are you dreaming of the perfect place to take your horses on a riding vacation? Are you looking for a destination to come ride with your horses and combine a couple Horsemanship Training days in addition to riding? Look no further.
The Trapper Creek Ranch in Shell, Wyoming is the ideal location for you and your horses to go on vacation.
During dedicated weeks this is our Horsemanship Clinic Center where guests can participate in a 6-day hands on program led by one of our trainers. These clinics are limited to 4 participants to maximize one on one instruction. During The Big Horn 100 Endurance Race, one of the more challenging Endurance Races in the US, some of the riders also board and rest their horses at The Trapper Creek Ranch.
The rest of the season you can rent out the entire facility and infrastructure. This includes The Trapper Creek Guest House, tack room, horse corrals and two arenas.
There are two electric hook ups for trailers, and we can provide hay for your horses, which is the same quality hay we feed our 130 horses at The Hideout Lodge & Guest Ranch (www.thehideout.com), 3 miles down the road.
The Trapper Guest House
The guest house has three bedrooms, two bathrooms, AC and heating, a fully equipped kitchen, dishwasher and a washer/dryer unit.
The million-dollar view from the deck is free. If you have an interest in a clinic and let us know well in advance, we can bring in one of our clinicians to work with you.
The Guest House and facilities are located on The Historic Trapper Creek Ranch. This was the area settled by pioneers in The Shell Valley and home to one of the first guests ranches in the area where famous guests like Owen Wister, Teddy Roosevelt, Hemmingway, NC Wyeth vacationed.
Your riding paradise
The setting could not be more picturesque. Situated at the foot of The Big Horn Mountains and The Shell Canyon near The Big Horn National Forest, The Trapper Creek Ranch is located at the entrance of Trapper Creek Canyon. The ranch property is surrounded almost entirely by public lands, with the ranch’s private property in the canyon surrounded by wilderness area. The red Sedona rocks of the Chugwater formations are breathtaking. No wonder this is where the first settlers built their cabins and is the location of one of the earliest guest ranches in this area of Wyoming, The Trapper Creek Guest Ranch.
What is available at The Trapper Creek Ranch?
Lodging for the Human Travelers
You will be staying in the comfortable and cozy Trapper Guest House. The Guest House was built in 1925 as a guest house to the historic Trapper Creek Lodge which is just adjacent and where the owners of the ranch live. The guest house and lodge were built by the Wyatt family in the 1920’s as part of their private guest ranch. The lodge and guest house are the only examples of the American Arts & Craftsman Architecture in the area. The Guest house offers a comfortable and traditional log cabin atmosphere, with the conveniences and technology that everybody requires such as Wi-Fi and free long distance within the US. There is also air-conditioning, heating, a fully equipped kitchen, living room, three bedrooms, a loft, two bathrooms and a washer/dryer. The porch and views from the porch are to die for and Trapper Creek runs next to the cabin.
Lodging for the Horses
Fort the horses there are 8 large wooden pens and plenty of hay raised in the fields surrounding the facilities. This is the same hay we feed our 130 horses at The Hideout Lodge & Guest Ranch.
Close to the corrals are two hydrants offering fresh water from our wells. This is some of the best and most pure water in the area. It is also the water we ourselves drink throughout the year.
Working & Riding Arena
Our working arena is 160 x 80 ft and like all our other corrals, built out of wood. The arena, like all the facilities is located next to Trapper Creek, offering clear water and the unique melody of a creek running straight down from the mountains and canyon which is pleasing to the ear throughout the day and night.
Round Working Pen
Our round pen is 80 ft in diameter, also located near the creek and in the shade of century old Cotton Wood trees.
Workout Arena
The work out arena is 230 ft long x 80 / 120 feet wide. Ideal for arena games needing more space.
Tack Room
The tack room is new and offers 8 saddle racks and plenty of room to store all your tack, boots, etc.
